Patch testing is a simple and important—but often ignored!—step that could identify an allergy or irritation.
It’s tempting to slather on a new skincare product, but wait! Before you introduce anything different into your routine, it’s worthwhile to do a patch test first. Why? Even with products that are made from super pure, natural ingredients, like Codex Beauty’s, there’s a chance of developing an allergic reaction or irritation. For that reason, we recommend a very basic patch-test. It’s not foolproof but a good habit to incorporate into your regimen.
Here’s how to do a patch test, step-by-step:
- Wash your face and neck and pat dry with a clean towel. Apply a small amount of your new skincare product to the area right behind your ear.
- Gently rub in the product and keep this area dry.
- Analyze your skin over the next 24 hours. If you notice any redness, burning, itching or irritation at any time, wash the area right away and don’t use this product.
- Remember to patch test one new product at a time—not many at the same time—so you can see how your skin responds to this specific product.
