Manage flares by restoring your gut microbiome with BIA ClearSkin Synbiotic Dietary Supplement

Many skin disorders are now thought to originate in the gut microbiome.  Disturbances in mucosal lining, microbiome dysbiosis, overgrowth of bacteria in small intestines, can all appear as rashes, flares, or even the onset of skin diseases such as eczema, rosacea, or psoriasis.

Gastrointestinal dysfunction and imbalance of the intestinal microbiome, known as dysbiosis, cause excess bacterial growth of pathogens, leading to competition for nutrients and toxic metabolite production. This results in local and systemic inflammation affecting the skin:

  • One study found that the gut microbiome of infants with eczema differed from that of healthy infants. The study found that pathogenic species such as Escherichia, Shigella or Clostridium were more abundant in infants with eczema, while the species Bifidobacterium was more abundant in healthy infants
    [Read study].
  • Another study found that eating fermented foods (Lactobacillus) while pregnant may reduce the risk of a child developing eczema [Read article].

For the Bia eczema collection, we have clinical results that conclusively prove the significant treatment synergy of topical and supplements in repairing the gut and skin barriers, as well as alleviating itch.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits to using the BIA ClearSkin Synbiotic Dietary Supplement +

With many different options of probiotic supplements to choose from, it’s important to consider the appropriate species and strains of probiotics for your specific concerns. There is research to suggest that certain oral probiotic supplementation may reduce the extent and severity of eczema, improve quality of life and support certain aspects of gut health.

For example, in vitro studies have shown that Lactobacillus probiotics (L. acidophilus, L. rhamnosus GG, L. plantarum) can increase the expression and secretion of intestinal mucins to potentially improve intestinal barrier function, which according to some research, may be relevant to those with eczema.

In addition, combinations of lactobacillus and bifidobacterial probiotics (L. casei, B. longum, B. lactis) have been studied in a pediatric population and have been found to reduce the extent and severity of eczema and therefore enable a reduction in the use of topical steroids in those with moderate eczema.

Overall, alterations in the gut microbiome may contribute to inflammation and immune responses associated with eczema, and supplementation with specific probiotics may be helpful. Speak to your integrative health care provider about what’s best for you!
